House plants are one of the beautiful natural things that people use in decorating the house, and they are one of the most important means used to purify the air of home rooms, but house plants need care and cleaning to remain beautiful and fresh.
Houseplants are exposed to a lot of different stains and dirt, such as dust, water spots, insect eggs, and others, but one of the worst things you may be exposed to is mold spots, and when mold spots appear, it will pollute the air instead of purifying it.
Mold may occur for many reasons, the most important of which is not taking care of plants properly, and the reason may be irrigating plants too much, and sometimes one of the most common reasons is the lack of sunlight reaching the plant, and thus mold grows in the soil or on the leaves and causes great damage. To get rid of mold and remove it, we do the following:
First we remove the mold from the soil; Where we use a suitable shovel and then shovel the rotten soil, mold may be on the outer and visible layer of the soil and thus the process of removing it is very easy and you can use a kitchen spoon.
It is important to remove it quickly so that the mold does not reach the roots of the plant and things become more complicated.
If mold has spread on the pot in which the plant was placed, the soil can be transferred from it and to another pot, and if we want to use it again, we clean it well of mold and then return the plant and arrange it.
After shoveling the mold and removing it from the soil, we must let the soil dry completely and not irrigate it with water during that; To ensure that mold does not form inside it, and when you need to irrigate it, it is advised to leave a distance between the watering to ensure the drying of the soil, and it is recommended to use high-quality potting soil.
Mold does not disappear easily, so to make sure it is gone completely, it is recommended to use baking soda and sprinkle it on the surface of the soil as it is a natural anti-mold, as it eliminates mold and is not harmful to the soil at the same time.
You can also use apple cider vinegar or ground cinnamon for the same purpose, as it eliminates mold and is beneficial for the soil.
The soil must be kept clean constantly to ensure that mold does not return. It is recommended to remove the leaves on which the mold is, as well as remove any moldy part of the plant so that the soil does not rot again.
After making sure that the soil is treated for mold, we treat the plant and remove the mold on it. The type of mold must be known. If it is inactive mold, it will be light in color and like powder. As for the active (live) mold, it has a soft texture and wrinkled shape.
We choose a suitable place to remove mold from the plant outside the house and away from other plants to ensure that it does not transfer, especially if it is active mold, it can be cleaned in the backyard of the house.
After that, we use dry paper tissues and wet them with water, then wipe the leaves of the plant and repeat we wet the tissue and wipe again and if the tissue is completely dirty, we replace it with another one so that we do not spread mold. This will remove the dead mold, not the living one.
For rotting leaves and mold that has an active neighborhood, they should be cut off from the stem with scissors or a knife.
It is recommended to spray the mold affected plant with suitable fungicide that is bought from the market, and it is better to stay outside the house during the treatment period and must be closely monitored to ensure that the mold does not return.
You can use baking soda or apple cider vinegar and put it in a spray can, add water, then spray and wipe the leaves of the plant. This will kill the mold if the fungicide is not present.
The plant must be placed in the house in a place that receives sunlight and has good ventilation to prevent mold from occurring again, and we must make sure of the appropriate amount of water with which we water the plant and not over-watering, whether by increasing or decreasing it.
It is recommended to place houseplants in a place whose temperature is from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius, and the soil of the plant must be kept dry.
It is recommended to change the soil that came with the plant from the market and replace it with clean soil from the home garden or purchased, as well as the soil that has been infected with mold before and the use of sterilized soil.
If the ventilation of the house is not good, electric fans can be used, as well as for the sun if it does not reach the house normally, it is recommended to use an electric light.
You must continue to keep the plants clean, removing any debris or dead leaves, and pruning the plant from the dead parts routinely, making sure that the soil does not rot.
And the plant must be wiped and its leaves covered from dirt and dust collected to prevent the occurrence of mold.
